On Saturday I was hiking in Big Basin Redwoos State Park. I didn’t want to spend too much time driving so I picked a park close to Mountain View.

Most people were heading east towards the waterfalls so I went south to Buzzard’s Roost. Not much to tell about the actual hike, it was short but nice and had a few beautiful views. But most importantly, I met exactly two other parties the whole day. Buzzard’s Roost has a flat top and I found a comfortable spot on the warm rock where I enjoyed the sun for about an hour before I headed back down.

Ich dachte nicht, dass mir das in der Bay Area jemals passiert. Heute musste ich zum ersten Mal Eis kratzen.

Aber ich konnte auch deutlich erkennen, daß den Eingeborenen hier sowas nicht oft passiert und sie deswegen nicht wissen was zu tun ist. In den 15min auf dem Weg zur Arbeit habe ich bestimmt ein halbes dutzend Autos mit etwa CD großen Gucklöchern gesehen – aber komischerweise keine Unfälle.

Ich bin mal wieder für 2 Wochen in Mountain View. Diese Woche war das Wetter nicht besonders prickelnd und die letzten beiden Tage hat es sogar geregnet. Aber zum Glück hatte das Wetter Mitleid mit mir und es war heute nur leicht bewölkt.

Vor ein paar Tagen bin ich über weekendsherpa.com gestolpert. Zur Inspiration habe ich die Best of 2008 Liste durchgelesen und Punkt 5 klang interessant:

Dear USGS,

your web page for the Menlo Park campus is one of the worst “professional”/governmental web pages I have seen since about 1994. It is impossible to find out when your visitor center is open without driving there as I just did. I could have guessed that government employees do not lift a finger on the weekend but I was still pissed that your map store was not open.

To all the other internet users out there who are looking for this information:

Ich bin mal wieder geschäftlich in Kalifornien und diesmal passe ich mich schon deutlich besser den kalifornischen Gepflogenheiten an. Nachdem ich die ersten zwei Tage “nur” im Gym war habe ich gestern bei einem Pick-Up Spiel Basketball mitgemacht (hier) und heute war ich bei eine Pick-Up Runde Ultimate Frisbee (auf der großen Wiese in der Mitte) dabei.

Zur Zeit ist das Wetter perfekt um draussen Sport zu treiben: Sonne, warm aber noch nicht zu heiß und ein bischen Wind zur Kühlung. Nur gegen Ende des Ultimate Spiels wurde der Wind dann doch stärker und damit etwas stöhrend – zumindest für mich Noob.

Beim Basketball war ich deutlich der schlechteste Spiele auf dem Feld und hier meine kümmerlichen Box Scores soweit ich mich erinnern kann.

Obwohl ich schon bestimmt 5 Jahre kein Ultimate mehr gespielt habe konnte ich einigermaßen mithalten und habe sogar ein paar kurze aber schöne Pässe geworfen.
